Watch Now: Finding A Sleeper Pick At The Rocket Mortgage (0:58)

This week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic will be must-see TV, not necessarily for its depth of stars but more for how many compelling stories it could unearth. Last year was an unbelievable debut for this event as alternate Nate Lashley won the tournament and Monday qualifier Doc Redman finished second. There’s more potential for that this time around.

If those deeper narratives aren’t enough to get you excited, then there are plenty of stars to fall back on, including Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson, Bryson DeChambeau, Webb Simpson and Patrick Reed. We should be in for our fourth consecutive great event on the PGA Tour since it came back amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Detroit Golf Club will be another star. With just one water hazard and playing as a short par-72, it will yield low scores, but hopefully it will be cooked out a little bit this time of year and make players earn their birdies. Either way, the only big-time American sport going will add another chapter to what has been a very fun summer.
