The average sports fan looked at Anthony Joshua, then looked at Andy Ruiz Jr., and asked the question: Is this a fair fight?
And if you had never seen Ruiz Jr. fight, that was probably a fair query.
But in truth, the new heavyweight champion of the world brought a serious resume — just the one career loss — and some elite skills to a fight that was much more dangerous for Joshua than it looked at first, second, or third glance.
Despite his appearance, Ruiz Jr. moves extremely well for his size — as seen in this video released of his agility training — with both hand and foot speed that compares well in the division.
And while he gave up height and reach to the perfect specimen in Joshua, Ruiz Jr. showed quickness, power, and a concrete chin as he dethroned the previously undefeated British superstar in one of the greatest upsets in boxing history.
Ruiz Jr., the new WBA Super, WBO, IBF, and IBO champion, looks destined for a rematch with Joshua before the end of 2019.
