The second half of the 2019 MLB season gets underway Thursday night with only Astros vs. Rangers on the schedule. First pitch is set for 8 p.m. ET. The single-game schedule, however, isn’t stopping daily Fantasy sites from offering some big MLB DFS tournaments for this Lone Star Series opener. FanDuel is hosting a $65K Thursday MLB Squeeze, while DraftKings is offering a $150K Lone Star Showdown. Both teams are among the American League leaders in several major hitting categories, so there’s plenty of firepower available in these two lineups. And before locking in any MLB DFS picks of your own for Astros vs. Rangers on Thursday, July 11, first be sure to see the optimal MLB DFS lineups and advice from DFS pro Mike McClure, who has won almost $2 million in his career.

When it comes to MLB, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

He got off to a hot start in 2019, producing lineups on SportsLine that have returned as much as 30x in the first half of the season. He’s also finished in the top 1 percent of tournaments four times and the top 0.1 percent of tournaments twice this season already. He cashed huge in three consecutive tournaments in mid-June, which included a top 2 percent finish when his DraftKings lineup generated a whopping 185.9 points. He also had an optimal lineup on FanDuel that cashed 8x for followers on the last Friday before the All-Star break.

To wrap up the first half of the season, he rostered Indians outfielder Greg Allen on FanDuel at just $2,000. The result: Allen exploded for four hits, including a home run, and two RBis on Sunday, returning a whopping 43.6 points and almost 22x value. Anybody who followed his lead was well on their way to a lucrative day.

Now he’s set his sights on the Astros vs. Rangers single-game slate on Thursday evening and locked in his picks.

One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Thursday is Astros second baseman Jose Altuve. It wasn’t the first half of the season that the 2017 AL MVP was hoping for as he enters play on Thursday slashing .262/10/25, all well below his career averages. But after missing some time with a knee injury in late May and early June, he’s shown signs that he’ll be able to turn it around in the second half. He hit .292 in 11 games in June and is hitting .318 through five games in July, so confidently put him in your roster on Thursday and look for solid returns at a discounted price.

Part of his optimal MLB DFS strategy for Thursday includes rostering Rangers third baseman Asdrubal Cabrera, who reached base at least once in the seven games before the All-Star break. He’ll look to exploit what appears to be a favorable matchup against Astros starter Framber Valdez (3-4, 4.57). Valdez got rocked in his last two starts in the first half of the season, giving up 11 runs in a combined 6.1 innings. And though they’ve faced each other just twice, Cabrera does have a base hit against him.

McClure is also targeting an undervalued player who is set to explode for tournament-winning numbers on Thursday. The stars are aligning for him to return huge value and he comes at a price that won’t break the bank. This pick could be the difference between cashing in big or going home with nothing.
