LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers travel to Boston to face his former teammate Kyrie Irving and the Celtics (-8), the main event of a six-game NBA schedule on Thursday night. There’s also a point guard showdown between Russell Westbrook and Mike Conley as the Thunder (-14) host the Grizzlies, plus DeMar DeRozan, LaMarcus Aldridge and the Spurs face off against Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum and the Trail Blazers (-5.5). Fans across the nation will be placing wagers on all these showdowns, but if you’re feeling truly bold on Thursday evening, SportsLine handicapper Adam Thompson is going huge, putting together a three-team NBA parlay that could return a massive 6-1 payout. If you risk $100, it would return $600. If you go big, it could make your Thursday night a memorable one.
Thompson, who covered major sports for 20 years as a writer and columnist before joining SportsLine, cites deeply-researched stats and trends you haven’t considered to build his win streaks. He enters Thursday on a sizzling 42-29 run on NBA picks against the spread. His three selections for Thursday are locked in and available exclusively at SportsLine.
We’ll give one key part of the parlay away: Thompson is backing the Trail Blazers as home favorites against the Spurs. Thompson knows both teams come off losses. The Spurs (32-24) punted Tuesday’s game at Golden State, sitting DeRozan and Aldridge to rest. The result was a 141-102 bloodbath. The Blazers (32-21), they were held in check by the Heat in a surprising 118-108 home defeat. It was only Portland’s second loss since Jan. 15 and its first home defeat in more than a month.
But that could serve as additional motivation for a Trail Blazers team that is tenuously holding onto the No. 4 spot in the ultra-competitive West, a half-game in front of the Rockets with the Spurs and Jazz closing in. And, as Thompson notes, there are several trends that favor Portland.
“They handled the Spurs by 13 at home earlier this year and are on a perfect 7-0 against the spread run with a day of rest between games,” Thompson told SportsLine. “Of those eight home wins during the streak, all were by at least nine points. Plus, San Antonio is only 10-17 on the road, with five of its last six road defeats by double-figures.”
Confidently lock in the Blazers into your NBA parlay and you could be well on your way to a colossal payoff.
Thompson has also identified a key matchup issue created by an NBA trade deadline deal that will be a huge x-factor in which side you should be all over for another Thursday night game.
